Public Relations Executive

LEADING MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE ON CHILDHOOD CANCER

An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and enthusiastic person to join our team at Children’s Cancer Institute Australia for Medical Research (CCIA).We are looking for an innovative, passionate and energetic person with a drive to work towards our vision to save the lives of all children with cancer and eliminate their suffering.

PR Executive will be a key player in the PR and communications team supporting the announcement of research breakthroughs, promotion of fundraising campaigns, building relationships with key stakeholders, families and survivors of childhood cancer, maintaining the CCIA website and managing key information and communication tools for the Institute.

The primary tasks or key responsibilities of this role are but not limited to:

* Support the Communications Manager in implementing PR initiatives to increase Institute exposure across general public, community groups, trade and professional associations, clubs & other organizations * Assist the Communications Manager in building the profile of key scientific staff in the scientific community and media * Support the fundraising teams in securing media exposure for events, marketing programs & fundraising initiatives. * Work with the Communications Manager on media announcements, both local and national * Help the Communications Manager to facilitate internal communication initiatives.

. Create and maintain a library of relevant information on the Institute to support fundraising and research promotional activities i.e. case studies on families, research project overviews, staff bios, Q&A’s, fact sheets etc.

* Coordinate the production of the annual report

Applicants must have a minimum 2 years’ PR experience and preferably experience in health/science

Tertiary qualifications and/or Experience in PR

CCIA is the only independent medical research institute in Australia dedicated to research into the causes, prevention, better treatments and ultimately a cure for childhood cancer.

About Jesse Shore

Jesse Shore is passionate about engaging the community with science and in looking for ways to weave together the arts and sciences. He has been developing science based exhibitions and events since 1984, and was President of the Australian Science Communicators from 2010-2012. His business, Prismatic Sciences, produced five travelling exhibitions for the Royal Australian Chemical Institute for the 2011 International Year of Chemistry and he manages the ongoing national tour. He previously worked at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney as an exhibition project leader and Senior Curator of sciences. While at the museum he was one of the founders of the Ultimo Science Festival, a major National Science Week activity. He is currently collaborating with an artist to create artworks which have a science slant.
