Clarification – amendment to the Constitution

Further to the email circulated regarding proposed changes to the ASC Constitution, it is noted that we currently have two Corporate Members. (In the original email, it was unclear as to whether there were current Corporate Members or not.)

Nominations for President

To date we have received one nomination for President – Dr Jesse Shore. (Nominated by Dr Nancy Longnecker and seconded by Sarah Lau.) Jesse’s biography is outlined below. Any further nominations must be received by 5pm AEDST on Monday 13 December.

Jesse Shore is the current ASC president. In 2010 the ASC raised its profile and influence by aligning a number of its activities with the recommendations in Inspiring Australia. Jesse sees continued benefits for ASC in 2011 through implementing several of the proposed strategies relating to Inspiring Australia, which he recently circulated to members. He will continue to have the ASC seek working relationships with like-minded professional associations and organisations. Jesse regularly asks for contributions from members on ASC related issues and opportunities and he will continue to do so. In 2011 Jesse wants to ensure procedures are in place to enable the conference planning committee to make good progress toward developing the national conference for 2012.

Jesse has over 27 years of experience as a science communicator. Currently he works through his business, Prismatic Sciences, to develop science-based programs for various audiences and media. From 1984 through 2008 he worked at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney where he was an exhibition project leader during the building of the museum and then Senior Curator of sciences for 21 years. While at the museum he created, directed and promoted a wide range of science exhibitions and events and in 2006 was one of the founders of the Ultimo Science Festival, a major National Science Week activity. Jesse was involved with National Science Week events and organising committees from 1997 through 2008 and chaired the 2001 NSWk NSW Coordinating Committee. He has been an active member of the Australian Science Communicators for many years and headed the program committee for the national conference held at the Powerhouse in 2001.
