ASC-WA Event Review: Baba Brinkman’s Rap Guide to Evolution

(Workshop) Baba Brinkman’s Rap Guide to Evolution (SciTech Discovery Centre) – 27 May 2014

Rapping

ASC-WA members learn to rap

On 27 May, ASC WA members were treated to a science communication workshop with a difference – communicating through rap. Canadian rapper and playwright Baba Brinkman shared his unique communication style with eight eager science communicators. The ASC members learnt the basic skills needed to write their own rap, including an overview of the form, its rhyme and rhythm structures, and the range of mood, voice, and character that can be drawn from the tropes of hip-hop culture. The ASC members then put their new found knowledge and skills to the test by writing and performing their own rap on a topic of their choosing. The event was made possible through an Inspiring Australia grant arranged by Scitech.  (8 attendees) (by Kimiko Holder)
