About cobi

Cobi was firmly focused on journalism in Adelaide when the Australian Broadcasting Corporation sent her to work as their newsreader and journalist in Port Lincoln. There she discovered her passion for science communication through reporting on issues like aquaculture, conservation, desalination and drought. She moved into science communication, working for the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics before moving to Cambridge, UK, in 2006. There she worked on science media projects ranging from podcasts to books, on topics like climate change, population and women in science. Cobi returned to Australia for a research degree in science communication through Australian National University's Centre for the Public Awareness of Science and work in science communication and bioethics at the University of Adelaide. In 2010 she was writing her thesis and freelancing in South America when a role came up at the Royal Insitution of Australia that caught her eye. The role is co-located in the South Australian Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology and co-funded by the Australian Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research. Now Cobi's working to implement the Federal Government's Inspiring Australia strategy, collaborating with organisations in South Australia and nationally from her base at RiAus.
