Stem Cell Research Panel Discussion in Melbourne

Panel Discussion: Is iPS Cell Research Lost In Translation? Australasian Society for Stem Cell Research Conference

Monday 15th November, 1.30-3.00 PM, Melbourne Convention Centre, Melbourne

Heralded as a major breakthrough in stem cell technologies, iPS cells are reprogrammed adult body cells that behave like pluripotent stem cells. A panel and audience will question this technology. What are iPS cells, true pluripotent cells or a culture artifact? What are benefits of this research? Will iPS cell technology be a ‘disease in a dish’? Is it hyped? Or, is it the next biotechnology breakthrough? Should cell donors share in any future profits?

Participants include: Professor Graham Jenkin, Professor Justin St John (Monash University), Louise Laurent (Scripps, USA), Kuldip Sidhu (University of NSW), Alan Petersen (Monash University), Kenneth Chien (Harvard University, USA), Ernst Wolvetang (Queensland University), Peter Mountford (Neopac Ltd), Varlli Beetham (Frederick Ataxia Association)

The 3rd Australasian Society for Stem Cell Research is being held during the Australian Health and Medical Research Congress, Melbourne Convention Centre. If you are interested in attending you can register for the ASSCR conference. Details about registration and the full conference program are available at the Congress webpage (http://www.ahmrcongress.org.au). If you want further information, email info(at)asscr.org.
