The Brains Trust = a group of interested people who contribute ideas, expertise and organise events if they want to and when they can. New Brains Trust members always welcome!!

Past events… we have run events like:

  • New media: what do audiences want and how can communicators add value? From Twitter to Facebook to YouTube to Government 2.0, this event will be an interactive session covering successes, failures, insights and trends in new media. Learn why it’s critical that communication professionals understand new media opportunities and pitfalls and explore what the future holds.
  • Evaluating Science Communication Programs: A workshop with Larraine J Larri (Director and Principal Consultant, Renshaw-Hitchen and Associates)
  • Pies and Pints for Pi Day: A celebration of World Pi day
  • National Science Week Afterparty
  • Professional development including the ‘Talk the Talk’ seminar series where we brought along professionals that work with communicators including editors; graphic designers; event planners; printers, mailers and merchandisers
  • Stem Cells in the Pub with the panel: Prof Alan Trounson (California Institute of Regenerative Medicine), Leigh Dayton (The Australian), Rebecca Skinner (Communications Officer, Australian Stem Cell Centre), Associate Professor Edna Hardeman (University of Sydney), Simon Grose (Science Media)
  • An impro workshop with Reid – what is improvisation/theatre sports and how can communicators learn new skills?
  • Sustainable living and eco-houses excursion – Canberra’s Sustainable House, Ainslie.
  • Supported the Australian Science Festival, Great Big Science Gig and National Science Week
  • Casual networking events and dinners/drinks after public events
  • The Science of… series. We did chocolate, beer and sex!
