Pacific Climate Change Science Program: Products and Engagement Support Officer

Term: 11.5 months, start date: mid to late January 2011, end date: 31 December 2011

The Pacific Climate Change Science Program (PCCSP) is a three year (2009-2011) $20 million, science research program to help Australia’s neighbouring island countries gain a better understanding of how climate has changed in the past and how it may change in the future. The PCCSP is being delivered by the Bureau of Meteorology and CSIRO through their research partnership in The Centre for Australian Weather and Climate Research.

The PCCSP is seeking a short-term (11.5 months term) Products and Engagement Support Officer to assist with the overall coordination and delivery of the Program. In particular, the role will provide support to the International Liaison Officer for the coordination and execution of a number of capacity building visits to partner countries, regional workshops and other events; and to the Communication Officer for the preparation and publication of key communication products.

The ideal applicant will possess strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to write about climate science research findings for key stakeholders in the partner countries.

Key tasks include:

* Assist with the coordination, execution and reporting on 22 in-country capacity building visits; * Assist with other regional meetings and launches of final PCCSP products; * Assist with the compilation and publication of the PCCSP technical report, Climate change in the Pacific; preparation of 15 country specific brochures; other brochures, e-newsletters, and other reports; * Update the PCCSP website under the direction of the Communications Officer; * Assist with the preparation and publication of annual and 6-monthly reports, workshop reports and other reports as may be required.

Key skills required include:

* Good coordination, administrative and inter-personal skills * First degree in communications or a related field * 2 years experience working in communications * Excellent writing skills * Knowledge of climate change

The officer will be based in Melbourne, Victoria and some travel to the region may be required. Salary is at APS5 to APS 6 level depending on qualifications. Applicants must be available to commence in January 2011 and should therefore be Australian residents or in possession of a working permit.
