Life as a freelance science communicator

This event features professional insights from three Canberra freelancers, who will
discuss taming the financial and lifestyle challenges of running a freelance business.

Malini Devadas – MD Writing & Editing
Dr Malini Devadas earned a PhD in neuroscience before leaving academia for the world of publishing.
She now provides writing, editing and training services through her freelance business, MD Writing &
Editing.
Sarah Kellett – writer and editor, CSIRO publishing
Writer Sarah Kellett has worked as a freelancer for ABC Science Online, COSMOS, and Australian
Geographic, and is currently the Editor for CSIRO’s children’s science magazine Double Helix.
Stuart McMillen – cartoonist and comics artist
Freelance cartoonist Stuart McMillen, draws long-form comics inspired by social issues involving science,
ecology, and economics.
This event features talks, panel discussion and Q&A over a networking lunch.

This event is organised by Australian Science Communicators ACT Branch.
Entry is free, with attendees to pay for their own food and drinks. No RSVP needed.

Vodcast: communicating science with cartoons

In late 2014, the Australian Science Communicators ACT Branch organised an event featuring three of Canberra’s premier cartoonists:

This time it’s the next installment of a pre-historic spectacle – JURASSIC WORLD!

Bring along your family and friends to the beautiful Kino Cinemas, Collins St. Melbourne

Arrive at 6pm for a drink and pre-movie speaker – the very talented Upulie Divisekera. She will give an insight into the real world of palaeontology and genetics, before we see the Hollywood take on things.

Cheap tickets are being offered to ASC members and friends – $15 for movie and popcorn. Please purchase all tickets prior to the event by Monday 22nd June.

Movie will start between 6.30pm and 7.00pm (time will be confirmed closer to the date).
